Being one of the few nations on earth to truly benefit from the European Great Wars, through the an extensive system of loans, the selling of arms and only minimal involvement, the United States was able to enrich itself while the great powers of old burned out. Although that didn't make them too many friends, it did allow them to establish their own 'stabilizing' military presence with bases around the world and the creation of puppet states in second world locales to secure vital resources.
NATIONAL FEATURES:
Founded amidst the rubble of the Second Great War, the European Federation exists to unify the most developed nations of Europe - politically, economically, and militarily - to counterbalance ever battling world powers, while avoiding strategic dependence on the US. Perhaps somewhat learning from the last two empire-driven wars, Europe developed towards a more democratic, representative state, and thus carefully picked nations who applied to join their union - rejecting those who's values and present conditions failed to represent the ideals of the Federation.
NATIONAL FEATURES:
The British Isles didn't suffer in the Second Great War as much as the continent and the kingdom maintained its position as a colonial empire. It wasn't, obviously, an easy job though. Watching as the people under French, Italian and Dutch rule broke free, the Queen's servants from India and Africa demanded their independence aswell. The day when Her Majesty's forces opened fire on protestors shifted the world's relations with Britain forever. It kept its colonies, paying in blood, but lost all support from the newly formed European Federation and the neighbouring continent at large.
NATIONAL FEATURES:
While the Pacific War with the Americans ended in stagnation and eventual armistice, Japan's campaign of conquest in China came to fruition as the abundant natural resources, industrial centres and key ports fell under her control. Trade with other colonial nations in the region was allowed to flourish, making Japan the key to the orient and all the riches that awaited there, firmly establishing them as the world power they had always sought to be. Furthermore their mutual hatred of the communist threat made them perfect for an international axis against the spread of such dangerous ideas.
